Antony ‘H’ Haylock knows how to have a little fun with art. His work centres around iconic, inanimate objects which, as he says, contain “the power to evoke an emotion, a memory, a visual time stamp.” H’s prints artfully blend high impact compositional technique with tongue in cheek wit to produce an appealing aesthetic that combines pop art themes and styles with fine art skills and a penchant for word play. ‘Everything Happens… Sunmaid Raisin Box’ reproduces the familiar, Sunmaid raisin box, big and bright in its palette of fire engine red and sunshine yellow. The piece is reminiscent of Warhol’s Campbell Soup can, but H doesn’t stop at basic image replication drips of paint stream from base of the raisin box and the branding typography has been replaced with tongue in cheek word play, reading ‘Everything Happens For A Raisin’. Bold, brash and fun, the piece is beautifully executed to maximum impact.
